Annual Scholarship Program
POINT LOMA OPTIMIST CLUB SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Optimist Club of Point Loma, an affiliate of Optimist International, has for many years recognized outstanding students at Point Loma High School through its Scholarship Program. This year, our club will be awarding college scholarships to selected graduating seniors of Point Loma High School. The specific amount of any award will be determined by the Club’s Scholarship Committee.
This program is open to graduating seniors of Point Loma High School who reside in the Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Loma Portal, and Midway communities of San Diego as defined by Postal Service Zip Codes 92106, 92107, and 92110.
Each interested candidate is asked to apply through the PLHS Senior Scholarship Application process. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 11, 2025. After a review of all submitted entries, selected candidates will be invited for a personal interview with the Point Loma Optimist Scholarship Committee, typically held on a Saturday in mid-May.
Scholarship awards will be determined using the following criteria:
Must be graduating from Point Loma High School
Information contained in the candidate’s PLHS Senior Scholarship Application.
An evaluation by the Scholarship Committee at Point Loma High School.
The candidate demonstrated evidence of Citizenship, Character, Leadership, Scholarship, and Financial Need.
The candidate’s personal interview with the Point Loma Optimist Club Scholarship Committee. Please note that, again this year, interviews may be held via the Internet using the “Zoom” video-conferencing app (available from the app store or via www.zoom.us).
