Shane has been a Volunteer Fire Lookout with the FFLA for 10 years. He was the Chairperson for the San Diego/Riverside Chapter for 6 of those years. Currently, he is the Training Officer for the Chapter -- responsible for overseeing the organization's training needs. He creates and manages all aspects of training from the annual training of new volunteers at the start of each fire season and ongoing training throughout the year. Shane's full-time job is not too dissimilar from his FFLA volunteer role. He is the Fire Lookout Manager on the San Bernardino National Forest where he is responsible for managing the almost 200 volunteers that staff the Fire Lookout towers on that forest
