How You Can Help

As a member of the Point Loma Optimist Club, you will enjoy camaraderie with other members as you attend weekly meetings, featuring interesting speakers and activities. You will work on committees that facilitate the generation of tens of thousands of dollars, benefiting hundreds of Point Loma and Ocean Beach boys and girls, annually. You will have an opportunity to express your patriotism when you, occasionally man the Point Loma Optimist Flag Truck, placing American Flags along Rosecrans, on Sundays and holidays. But most importantly, you will get that warm feeling, knowing you are contributing to your community. You’re leaving a positive footprint for your legacy to follow.  Our meetings are normally Tuesday mornings at 7 am at the San Diego Yacht Club.  Please contact Jim Dennison at if you are interested in attending.

If you aren’t quite ready to become an Optimist member, but want to volunteer at an activity, Optimist Clubs provide a variety of opportunities. You can be a judge at the Oratorical or Essay contests.

There are a variety of ways to make a donation:

You can make a difference by making a tax-deductible contribution to your local Optimist Club or to a specific youth program. Your donation can be monetary (through a sponsorship) or in providing prizes such as trophies or T-shirts for an athletic activity.   If you are interested in making a donation, please contact Jim Dennison at 619-224-3236 or you can mail it to P.O. Box 6141, San Diego, CA 92166.

The Optimist International Foundation (OIF), a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, also accepts donations to help support youth scholarship awards and programs. OIF offers a variety of donation programs.
